Nuwu Art invites the public to view the Nuwu Art Collective's Beginnings exhibition as we celebrate a soft opening of the Nuwu Art Gallery + Community Center (NAGCC). NAGCC is a POC-owned art and community space (big Purple building pictured) that is located at 1331 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89104. Over the past 2 years we've been working hard to get Phase 3: NAGCC open to the public, after Phase 1: Nuwu Art Studios (Green + Blue buildings) and Phase 2: Nuwu Activism Studios (Orange bldg).

The Nuwu Art Collective consists of artists Juan Cuevas, Fawn Douglas, Ben-Alex Dupris, Brent Holmes, Ashanti McGee, Theo Tso, and Xochil Xitlalli. These artists will feature their work together for the first time at the Beginnings exhibit. This includes Dupris' short documentary “Nuwu Means the People,” which was featured in the Smithsonian’s FUTURES exhibit. This film follows the journey of partners Fawn Douglas & A.B. Wilkinson, whose collaborations helped create the spaces at Nuwu Art.

The Nuwu Art Collective and other Nuwu Art Core members will showcase their art, organizations, and talents in a 1-day extravaganza! There will be music, art market, food vendors, performances, presentations, games, and more! The Nuwu Art Gallery will also be open to public viewing of the Beginnings exhibit. Free admission and fun for the whole family on a day that promises to be a great one!
What is the Nuwu Art Collective?
Fawn Douglas conceived the Nuwu Art Collective, which sprung from the group of talented artists who have spaces at the Nuwu Art Studios. These Las Vegas creatives all value community building and creating safe spaces for youth and families to explore their cultures, as they use their unique skills to decolonize through the arts and education.
Cultural revitalization and exploration are central themes for those who gather at Nuwu Art, as artists and guests at the studios draw, paint, sculpt, weave, and perform stories inspired by Native American (Paiute, etc.), Indigenous Latin American (Mexica, etc.), African American, and various traditions.
