Events + Gatherings

Below is a list of past and upcoming events and gatherings hosted at the Nuwu Art + Activism Studios.  We are still not officially open to the public, as we continue to revitalize our next physical space: Phase III of the Nuwu Art + Activism Complex. We will be announcing Phase III in Fall 2021 and our grand opening to the public will take place after our next soft opening.

Final Friday Halloween (October 29, 2021)

On October 29, 2021, IndigenousAF gathered at the Nuwu Art Studios for a spooky Final Friday Halloween! We had Tiny Tots & Kid Friendly fun for the first half of the event and Party Time for the adults afterwards. DJ Misfit provided music and the team put together tricks & treats, games & prizes, costume contests, and a pumpkin contest. This gathering for our community was a vaccinated-only event, to keep it safe for our children and elders. Adults were expected to attend responsibly and have the COVID vaccination to help protect our community.

Sunrise Ceremony: Stop the Violence on Indigenous Peoples (July 10, 2021)

On Saturday, July 10, 2021, we stood in solidarity with protectors at Peehee Mu’huh (Thacker Pass), who held protests in northern Nevada (bit.ly/MMIWRedmt). After the sunrise ceremony, Indigenous groups practiced song and dance, while others prepared breakfast. We also ate, gathered in a Healing Circle, discussed land protection, #MMIW, and colonial issues that continue to affect our communities, including the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative (#FIBSI).

Mexica New Year + Nuwu Art Soft Opening, Phase II: Activist Studios (March 13, 2021)

On Saturday, March 13, 2021, we hosted a soft opening of Nuwu Art's Phase II: Activist Studios. The Activist Studios are located at 1325 S. Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89104, and the building contains 3 separate 501(c)(3) organizations, which were featured at the event. This gathering also celebrated Mexica New Year and raised funds for two non-profit causes: DACA recipients and the Indigenous Arts Facilities (see more at www.IndigenousAF.org). This was an outdoor event where masks and social distancing were required. Indoor tours were limited to small groups in order to protect our community during the COVID crisis.

Nuwu Art Soft Opening, Phase I: Art Studios (Dec. 23, 2020)

Nuwu Art Soft Opening, Phase I: Art Studios (Dec. 23, 2020)

On Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Nuwu Art hosted a soft opening of its art facilities at 1335 S. Maryland Pkwy and invited people to tour the Cultural Arts + Activism Center. In December, 2020, we wrapped up Phase I of a grassroots, community-based project that we were excited to finally share with the wider Las Vegas community: Nuwu Art Studios.

The Nuwu Art, Cultural Arts + Activism Center is a POC-owned space in Las Vegas, Nevada, that works to uplift all communities through strengthening cultural knowledge and identity through the arts, activism, and education. We advocate for the equity of our respective and collective communities through an ongoing process of decolonization and celebration of our rich cultural heritages.
